Day 7: Sepilok

Yesterday marks our first week travelling. We have been embracing the nomadic life at our 4th destination. We are staying at a resort in Sepilok that is nestled in the forest. As I’m writing I can hear the sounds of various birds chirping and am looking out over trees.

We are staying in a dorm with 4 bunk beds as there wasn’t any private rooms left. I’m surprisingly enjoying it as I bagsied the bottom bunk. WanderMan has also agreed to carry my backpack as it is heavier and always lets me have the aisle seat.

Today we are happy and content doing absolutely nothing which is a change from back at home. I feel blessed with the gift of simply being. This relaxation is needed as I only had 3 hours sleep. I was kept awake by the sound of heavy rain and fruit falling from the trees and hitting the roof. The birds and other unknown creatures are particularly noisy at night but that’s to be expected when sleeping in a rainforest. I was happy to listen to the unfamiliar sounds as I knew I didn’t need to wake up for work.

I love being surrounded by nature but I could do without incessant flies. Despite being covered in repellent the mossies still manage to bite me 😭. Consequently I have gained a mosquito bite on my leg the size of second calf. It looks like I have had serious leg day at the gym.

Oh, I nearly forgot one of the best things about this resort is the food. We are thankful to be eating delicious food rather than pot noodle in our room. We have eaten in some questionable places so get excited when there is decent food.

Lots to love,
