Bali is a magical place and I have fallen in love with the culture and people. A local gave us a pretty flower to wear behind our ear. I am always overwhelmed by how friendly people are in other countries but mostly in Asia. This is probably because the English are notoriously miserable. It makes such a difference to your day when people greet you with a genuine smile.

We visited Uluwatu temple (Pura Luhur) and it was clear why Hindus worship there. It is a perfect spot on the cliff edge to reflect on the beauty of nature and feel close to God. It was captivating to watch the waves build in momentum, cascade and hit the rocks. The walkway on the edge of the temple complex was lined with beautiful flowers. They were fuchsia pink and deep purple that matched the sarongs we were given to wear. You had to be careful walking down the paths because the monkeys will steal anything they see. I was nearly a victim of monkey theft but I intercepted the plot to steal my bottle!

As well as being rich with culture, Bali has the most captivating sunsets. The sun turns a deep red colour that is so beautiful it looks as if it has been painted on a canvas. The black sand wet from the sea shimmers and reflects the sun. Even when the sun has disappeared it leaves a beautiful skyline of soft, dusty pink colours. The beaches in Seminyak are some of the largest I’ve ever seen and comes with its hazards. At first I found the waves liberating but not when they hit you at a speed and force that rips you under. Luckily I managed to run out but was left looking and feeling like I had been shipwrecked. We have also been lucky to see clear blue skies as parts of Indonesia are experiencing haze due to the devastating forest fires. Unfortunately when we were in KL the sky was thick with smog and felt heavy to breathe.

I have also loved wandering the streets and admiring the boutiques selling wicker bags and bohemian clothes. It’s like sensory overload as I’m enticed by every pretty shop. Healthy dishes like Buddha Bowls and dragon fruit smoothies served in hipster cafes make me excited. I have been taking inspiration from the dream catchers with colourful feathers, cotton hanging plant baskets and swing chairs.
