Pulau Kapas is smaller than Tioman but equally as picturesque with clear waters, soft sand and a forest backdrop. We had a lovely stay at Kapas Beach Chalets (KBC). It had a relaxed atmosphere and an eclectic style with wind-chimes made of spoons and shells, old scooters and plants in wellies. I love this mismatched design and have been taking inspiration for our home. I shouldn’t admit this but I’ve started to imagine what plants I’m going to have and what colour I’ll paint the pots 😂. I was never interested in flowers and plants but now I notice their beauty all around.

There wasn’t much to do for 5 nights but we enjoyed relaxing, snorkelling and kayaking. We mostly lazed on the comfortable outdoor beds under a canopy or in the sun. It was a perfect beach front location to watch the sea and WanderMan play volleyball. We were also joined by chickens and roosters running across the beach. I was content watching them follow and chase each other around, although they make noisy neighbours. In the evening they had a musician play who was a lovely guy from Argentina that we shared a dorm with.

Even though it’s common practice to remove your shoes in Asia it’s a treat not to wear them all day either. You don’t need to as all of the accommodation and restaurants are beach front and there are no paths. I’ve felt like a child again dragging my toes to make patterns and sinking in the sand to leave footprints. I have been interesting WanderMan with a detailed description of how the sand feels between my toes.

Our evenings consisted of walking along the beach to our favourite restaurant, sitting on the swing before dinner, and then followed by a hammock after dinner. We have a Rummy competition going and I’m the reigning champion at 22-14. I suggest that Loser pays for the rest of the trip. We were also joined by an uninvited guest at dinner when a grasshopper leaped on to my head. All the insects are now familiar friends. Oh … just another giant lizard on the beach and a newt above my head while showering.

I have been practising meditation and mindfulness which helps clear my mind of clutter. As much as I enjoy the moment and try to be present my mind likes to ruminate. Reading Ruby Wax’s books have really helped me to understand how the brain works and the science of mindfulness. She includes evidence from neuroscience to explain why we think, feel and behave in certain ways.

Lots of love,

Sorry Sumaira I keep meaning to post but I’m definitely not doing a good job keeping up with it. I’m also trying to have a break from my phone too! My sister came to visit for 2 weeks so was enjoying spending time with her and then I’ve been sick for about a week too 😭😭. We are leaving Bali in 3 days and then flying to the Philippines which I’m so excited about! I hope you are well and I miss you too! New posts will be coming soon. 🤞🏻
